Terahertz science as a separate research field appeared after the pioneering experiments of D. Auston, when he demonstrated generation and detection of terahertz (THz) radiation in a semiconductor and a nonlinear crystal. Since then, no ultimate universal THz transmitter has been demonstrated. In this webinar hosted by the Optical Communications Technical Group, Andrei Gorodetsky will give a short overview of the most popular existing THz sources with a special focus to compact sources of THz radiation operating at room temperature, and highlight the most recent ongoing research on THz transceiviers development.
