High-Dimensional Quantum Photonics Using Structured Photons
Quantum photonics is one of the key players in the ongoing second quantum revolution. On one hand, photons are the natural carrier to transmit quantum information and as such are important in quantum communication and cryptography. On the other hand, photons can be used to perform simple quantum computation and simulation tasks. For most of these applications, high-dimensional quantum states, so-called qudits, are beneficial as they allow to benefit from an enlarged underlying Hilbert space. One powerful way to encode qudits is to use complex transverse spatial structures of light, i.e. structured photons.

In this webinar hosted by the OSA Quantum Computing and Communication Technical Group, Assist. Prof. Robert Fickler, Tampere University, will introduce the concept of structured photons, how they can be utilized as high-dimensional quantum states and review the current progress in the field. Assist. Prof. Fickler will then focus on how to modulate structured photons through multi-plane mode conversion techniques and how this can be beneficially applied to quantum information tasks.
